Have you ever heard about Miyakojima, an island in Okinawa?
Miyako-jima lies approximately 300 kilometres (186 mi) southwest of Okinawa Island.[2] With an area of 158.70 square kilometers (61.27 sq mi), Miyako is the fourth-largest island in Okinawa Prefecture. Wikipedia
The island has two airports. We flew from Narita to Shimojishima airport, which took about three and a half hours. Unfortunately, they only had morning flights from Narita Airport, so we decided to stay a night at Terminal 3. In Japan, the trains don’t run for 24 hours.
The airport was cozy and very clean. Some Konvini(convenience stores) and a beef bowl restaurant were open 24 hours. To kill time, we stayed at a large food court. There were probably hundreds of people waiting for their flights, but it was quiet. Some tourists were sleeping on their improvised beds made with chairs gathered, and most were staring at their laptops.
After a few hours of flight, we finally arrived at Miyakojima, and the clear blue ocean was sparkling!Â
We rented a car and went to three beaches: Yonaha, Boraga, and Painagama Beach. Yonaha Beach was the most beautiful beach in Japan. We enjoyed swimming and lounging in the sun. At that moment, we never expected our traveling would be ruined by the typhoon.
Who could imagine that we ended up stuck in the apartment for four days, spending time only watching Netflix?
Don't go to Miyakojima in August.
